Turkey
Turkey is a much sought-after source of protein for many dog owners, particularly if their dog is allergic to chicken or beef. It is a highly digestible protein and low on the glycemic index (GI), helping to keep blood sugar levels under control. Turkey meat is also a rich source of B vitamins such as B3, B6 and B12. It is also loaded with selenium, helping to regulate metabolism and growth rate, plus zinc which is an essential mineral to help protein synthesis and enzyme reaction. Turkey also contains L-triptophan which is associated with sleepiness as it is used by the body to make the neurotransmitter serotonin. Turkey is also well known for its anti-cancer properties.
Dandelion
We believe that it is important if possible to add natural antioxidants for dogs in our recipes. Dandelions are a superfood and they are one of the safest herbs in the world, plus they are gentle in nature. Dandelion flowers are an antioxidant-rich food for dogs, they are easily digestible, natural and will not contribute to inflammation. In fact, they are known to help the immune system and detoxify the liver; they can also help in the entire process of digestion. Also, if that wasn’t enough, they work like a diuretic promoting urine elimination. Without proper elimination a dog can suffer from congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, arthritis, gall bladder disease and kidney stones; all imbalances from not being able to eliminate water or accumulated excesses. They are also known to assist in better management of certain diseases such as Cushings. Dogs really do love them – and for good reason!
Prebiotics
In addition, this recipe has been formulated to include natural plant-based prebiotics, such as chicory. They are called MOS and FOS for short. They feed the good bacteria Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, which will help to improve your dog’s gut microbiome and provide a boost towards all-round immunity. Also, more recent research shows that having a healthy gut means your dog is more likely to have a healthy brain in old age.
Omeag 3 and 6
Flaxseeds (also called linseeds) are rich in both Omega 6 and Omega 3. They are essential fatty acids, which provide enormous health benefits. Omega 6 will help to soften and shine your dog’s coat, it is also important for immunity and various cell functions. Omega 3 assists the nervous system, the brain and vision. These fatty acids are also known to help reduce any skin and joint inflammation. Flaxseeds are also good for digestion as they contain a lot of natural fibre, which help to produce solid stools!
Seaweed
This recipe also contains some high quality easily digestible seaweed for dogs. Seaweed provides one of the richest sources of minerals and amino acids found in a plant. Seaweed is known to promote longevity in animals by enhancing the immune system. Like turkey, seaweed also contains L-tryptophan. It is also known to be good for the adrenal glands just like dandelion, plus it is good for dogs with skin allergies as it helps to reduce inflammation. Seaweed can also help decrease dental plaque because it contains alginic acid, therefore seaweed is good for dogs’ teeth. Its fibre content (soluble fibre) will also help in the digestive process.
